Occupational Therapist

Full Time

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm

Salary: $33.25 - $42.01 / hour

CWSDS is looking to hire an Occupational Therapist on a full time basis (40 hours per week).

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Working as part of an inter-disciplinary team to support and develop a therapeutic milieu for the people we support with an intellectual or developmental disability, complex mental health needs and/ or challenging behaviour (dual diagnosis).
  • Contributing to Individual Support Plans (ISP) for the people we support by participating in the inter-disciplinary team process.  Working cooperatively with other disciplines/professionals/families to develop comprehensive and complementary service plans for the people we support.
  • Developing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating occupational therapy individualized Health Care and Skill Acquisition Plans in the Individual Support Plan/Treatment process.
  • Developing individualized health care plans to facilitate functional activities and independence in daily living skills, such as mobility, handling and positioning, feeding, dressing, grooming, perceptual motor development, vocational development, and life skills training, etc.
  • Knowledge and ability to utilize a Sensory Integration–Based Approach as it relates to assessment and treatment
  • Facilitating the use of assistive devices and adaptive equipment to support a persons’ functioning in Activities of Daily Living, by modifications to existing, or recommendations for new, assistive and adaptive equipment.
  • Consulting and coordinating with external consultants, specialists, manufacturers and vendors with regard to the prescription or modification of assistive devices and adaptive equipment.
  • Completing assessments; providing knowledge to direct support professionals, care providers, and conducting appropriate interventions in complex care situations.
  • Providing knowledge and training/in-servicing for direct support professionals, families, care providers and other service providers to meet the person’s strengths and needs; explaining and interpreting Individualized Health Care and Skill Acquisition Plans.
  • Providing group structured activities and programs that facilitate functional activities, maintenance of physical status and independence in daily living skills.
  • Maintaining accurate documentation of referrals, assessment, Individualized Health Care/Skill Acquisition Plans, and progress reports.
  • Coordinating referrals to external consultants, specialists in orthotics and seating, and with the physician in areas that require clinical authorization from the medical profession.
  • Providing supervision to Occupational Therapy Assistants, students or others as assigned.
  • Completing statistical information and other data as required for planning purposes.
  • Fostering key relationships with other related agencies and referral sources in the assigned area.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy obtained in Ontario or academic qualifications deemed equivalent by the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario.
  • Must maintain current registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario.
  • Knowledge of the theories, methods, and techniques of developing occupational therapy plans/programs for persons with an intellectual and/or developmental disability.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in providing OT services to persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities, significant mental health challenges, complex behavioural challenges as well as persons diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently without daily supervision, while planning and delivering OT services and the ability to work as a team member.
  • Strong assessment, planning, priority setting, and problem solving skills; demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
  • Computer proficiency using Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work flexible hours to meet the needs of persons supported.
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License and a vehicle to conduct home visits and community outreach activities as required.
